In the spring of 2021 when there were still many restrictions on wind bands due to the pandemic, I created a virtual band. A variety of community members from various regions participated.
I have led this German ensemble since 2017, succeeding Arnold Taube. We perform multiple times per year for Ice Cream Socials in the Geneseo city park and various Oktoberfest events. I assemble and rehearse the ensemble each year, and on performances I play clarinet and deliver program notes to entertain the audience during transitions. See some of our pandemic performances here.
The Maple City Band is Geneseo's community band, open to high school students and older.
I have guest directed at least one piece each summer with the Maple City Band since 2016. It gives the ensemble a fresh view on their repertoire and a nice occasional change of pace. When I am not directing, I play percussion. I also serve as the band's librarian.
I have directed the First United Methodist Church's orchestra during large events such as Easter and Christmas services. These services often bring in over 700 people. I rehearse the ensemble prior to prepare them, and we end the Christmas services with a combined Hallelujah Chorus with the choir, as pictured above.
